Parenting in a Pornified Culture

Facing Life Head-On is an award-winning television series produced by Life Issues Institute.  We applaud them for their international efforts to promote the sanctity of life, and especially for having the vision and courage to produce an episode on pornography and the commercial sex industry: Satan’s Final Frontier–The Sex Industry.

In this episode, host Brad Mattes interviews Noel Bouché of pureHOPE and Shelley Lubben of the Pink Cross Foundation about the sexualized nature of contemporary society and the devastating impact of the sex industry on individuals, families, and communities.  The three-minute segment below highlights the role of parents in equipping their kids to pursue purity and virtue and why loving and engaged parenting is so important in a sexualized culture.

“I hold parents responsible for what is happening to this culture.”  Shelley Lubben

2011 Banquet Speaker: Shelley Lubben

The highlight of our annual banquet was the amazing and inspiring story of redemption and restoration Shelley Lubben  shared with the audience of almost four hundred.  Living on the streets as a teenager, reduced to prostitution and stripping for survival, then caught in the abuse and exploitation of the porn industry for two years, Shelley was delivered from bondage by the love of Christ.  Now married, a mother, and founder of the Pink Cross Foundation, Shelley brings hope and healing to women trapped in the sex industry and men caught in sexual addiction across the country.

Her story had the audience in tears, then grateful applause; it is a tale that embodies the power of the gospel.  We are thankful for Shelley’s courage, for her grace, and for her friendship that we trust will be a strong partnership for many years to come.

An Exquisite Evening

We want to thank everyone who attended our annual banquet this Thursday in Cincinnati.  It was an elegant and incredibly moving evening that celebrated the work of pureHOPE and the amazing ways God is moving and transforming lives.  The pureHOPE team is grateful for the privilege to serve God and touch lives through this ministry, and for the kindness and generosity of thousands of supporters across the country.  We are especially thankful for the generous response of the almost 400 attendees who joined us for the evening.

Watch for video highlights of the event in the coming days, including presentations from pureHOPE staff; testimonies of those who have been impacted by our ministry; remarks from Ron DeHaas, President of Covenant Eyes and recipient of our 2011 Jerry and Patty Kirk Award for his work to protect families and impact lives; and of course the remarks of our featured speaker, Shelley Lubben, founder of the Pink Cross Foundation.

Until then, enjoy this brief video from the banquet that highlights the impact of pureHOPE events this past year.  We hope you will help us touch more lives in 2012 as we continue to pursue a world free of sexual exploitation and brokenness by providing Christian solutions in this sexualized culture.

Interview: Raped on the Porn Set

As part of White Ribbon Against Pornography (WRAP) week, our friends at Covenant Eyes are helping to lift the veil on the injustice of porn.  So too is Shelley Lubben of the Pink Cross Foundation.  In this post from the Breaking Free blog, Shelley interviews Victoria about her violent and degrading experience working in the porn industry.  It is a message that people need to hear as porn becomes more normalized and glamorized, and as more people accept the lie that “these women like it.”

“I did not enjoy making porn.  It was a big act.”  Victoria, on her time in the sex industry
